DON MURRAY
TECHNICIAN
Don Murray was born in Tucson, Arizona to an Air Force couple and he spent much time traveling around the world prior to his high school years. His love of bodybuilding began in high school, while he was living in San Bernardino, California. A standout athlete, he was on both the varsity football team and varsity wrestling squad. “I lifted weights a few times a week and I loved the feeling of getting bigger and stronger, Don Murray explained. His love of bodybuilding continued to grow and in his senior year of high school, he was no longer content to lift only twice per week. He made the decision to quit football and wrestling and devote himself to lifting five days a week during his two gym periods. “…The coaches decided to kick me out of the weight room for several weeks as punishment for quitting both teams, he said. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Murray’s weight went from 168 to 238 pounds and he continues to lift and train in the sport of Bodybuilding to this day. In fact, he is gearing up to compete in his first competition in 2010. One person that will undoubtedly encourage him in his quest to compete is his wife and workout partner, NPC Competitor, Marla Murray. Don notes that she knows just how to encourage him during tough workouts. “But, the biggest benefit of having my wife as my partner is having a spouse who understands what it takes to keep fit and how to eat right to maintain a healthy lifestyle, he explained. At the young age of 53, Don credits bodybuilding with keeping him looking and feeling younger than his years. In his spare time, he enjoys airbrushing, woodworking and riding motorcycles with Marla.
